My name is Melisa Núñez-Arzuaga and I ♥ Breastfeeding hehehe. No, seriously I do. I am a proud mama to a beautiful boy born in March 2011 and an amazing daughter born in May 2013. They are the light of my life and the reason for the permanent dark circles under my eyes heheh. I breastfed through pregnancy until my son weaned at 21 months. My daughter is still nursing with no signs of stopping!
During my first pregnancy I read various books about breastfeeding and thought I was prepared for anything. Boy was I wrong. The first four months were very difficult for us and they didn’t have to be. There are many things I would do differently in hindsight. As time went by, even though I had found several sites online about this topic something seemed to be missing. Where was the evidence based information but delivered with some personality, some passion, some emotion and compassion? Finally I decided to create that resource and this little blog was born.
True it is a huge task and it will probably take me a long time to complete but I am committed to extending a friendly hand to other moms and their babies!
I am a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC). I also have a master’s of science in engineering, so I try to combine a scientific approach with the motherly love needed to achieve breastfeeding success! I am actively working towards my IBCLC certification in July 2015 and I also do volunteer work as a peer-to-peer breastfeeding counselor with the Nursing Mothers Counsel in Northern California.
I do home visits, private consults (email, phone and skype), moderate a support group (Tuesday mornings at Tiny Tots in Campbell) and I also teach a Breastfeeding Basics class.
Join us at our weekly South Bay Breastfeeding Support Group!
